Fine-Grained Complexity of the Graph Homomorphism Problem for Bounded-Treewidth Graphs

چکیده
For a fixed graph $H$, by Hom($H$) we denote the computational problem which asks whether given $G$ admits homomorphism to i.e., an edge-preserving mapping from $V(G)$ $V(H)$. As Hom($K_k$) is equivalent $k$-Coloring, homomorphisms can be seen as generalizations of colorings. It known that polynomial-time solvable if $H$ bipartite or has vertex with loop, and NP-complete otherwise [Hell Nešetřil, J. Comb. Theory Ser. B, 48 (1990), pp. 92--110]. In this paper are interested in complexity problem, parameterized treewidth input $G$. If $n$ vertices along its tree decomposition width ${tw}(G)$, then solved time $|V(H)|^{{tw}(G)} \cdot n^{\mathcal{O}(1)}$, using straightforward dynamic programming. We explore bound improved. show projective core, existence such faster algorithm unlikely: assuming Strong Exponential Time Hypothesis, cannot $(|V(H)|-\epsilon)^{{tw}(G)} for any $\epsilon > 0$. This result provides full characterization large class graphs almost all cores. also notice naive improved some classification two conjectures algebraic theory. particular, there no not covered our result.

Graph Pricing Problem on Bounded Treewidth, Bounded Genus and k-partite graphs
Consider the following problem. A seller has infinite copies of n products represented by nodes in a graph. There are m consumers, each has a budget and wants to buy two products. Consumers are represented by weighted edges. Given the prices of products, each consumer will buy both products she wants, at the given price, if she can afford to. Our objective is to help the seller price the produc...

Let k be an integer. Two vertex k-colorings of a graph are adjacent if they differ on exactly one vertex. A graph is k-mixing if any proper k-coloring can be transformed into any other through a sequence of adjacent proper k-colorings. Any graph is (tw + 2)-mixing, where tw is the treewidth of the graph (Cereceda 2006). We prove that the shortest sequence between any two (tw + 2)-colorings is a...

A class C of graphs is said to be H-bounded if each graph in the class C admits a homomorphism to H. We give a general necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of bounds with special local properties. This gives a new proof of Häggkvist-Hell theorem [5] and implies several cases of the existence of triangle free bounds for planar graphs.

In the Even Set problem, the input consists of a family F of subsets of a universe U and an integer k; the question is to find a nonempty set A ⊆ U of size at most k such that |A ∩ F | is even for every F ∈ F . Alternatively, the question can be stated as finding a nonzero codeword of Hamming weight at most k in a linear code over F2. The question of parameterized complexity of this problem, pa...
متن کاملAlgorithms for Graphs of (Locally) Bounded Treewidth
Many real-life problems can be modeled by graph-theoretic problems. These graph problems are usually NP-hard and hence there is no efficient algorithm for solving them, unless P= NP. One way to overcome this hardness is to solve the problems when restricted to special graphs. Trees are one kind of graph for which several NP-complete problems can be solved in polynomial time. Graphs of bounded t...
